Dentoalveolar CBCT Diagnostic Imaging Course

Dental Imaging Ireland provides a local Level 1 and Level 2 dentoalveolar CBCT diagnostic imaging course for dentists and specialist dentists who wish to order, justify and clinically evaluate CBCT scans as part of patient care.

Course Description

This first cycle local Level 1 and Level 2 CBCT course relates to the Dental Imaging Ireland CS 9600 CBCT scanner and the accompanying Carestream 3D interpretation and reporting software. The course is designed to enable dentists and specialist dentists to order and clinically evaluate a CBCT scan as part of a patient care plan.

Local Level 1 – Online Learning for Theoretical Concepts

  • Radiation physics in relation to CBCT equipment.
  • Radiation doses and risks with CBCT.
  • Radiation protection in relation to CBCT equipment, including justification, referral and selection criteria, and relevant aspects of optimisation of exposures.
  • CBCT equipment and apparatus.

Local Level 2 – Blended Learning for Justification and Clinical Evaluation

  • Principles and practice of interpretation of dentoalveolar CBCT images of the teeth, supporting structures, mandible and maxilla up to the floor of the nose, for example 8 cm x 8 cm or smaller fields of view.
  • Normal radiological anatomy on CBCT images.
  • Radiological interpretation of disease affecting the teeth and jaws on CBCT images.
  • Artefacts on CBCT images.

Course Providers

Registered dentist with a postgraduate qualification in Radiology.
Registered radiographer.
