'Local' Level 1 Theoretical Concepts
This module describes the fundamental technical principles of CBCT imaging and the theoretical concepts behind the statutory framework for Radiation Protection regulations in Ireland. There is also a section on CBCT Anatomy and Pathology seen on CBCT scans of the Dentolaveolar region. A Radiology Textbook (White and Pharoahs Oral Radiology and Interpretation 8ᵗʰ Edition) is available for reference only if you would like to build further on anatomy and pathology seen on CBCT scans. In preparation for the second module on Interpretation and Reporting and also for the 3-d software training day you can access the most common selection criteria that you would use for ordering CBCT scans. You can also download the full Carestream 3-d Imaging software and install it on your PC along with the Demo Upper and Lower arches CBCT scan. There is also selection criteria for conventional 2-d extra-oral imaging and two useful Reporting guide documents for 2-d radiographs and CBCT scans respectively.

This module is concerned with how to use the Carestream 3-d Imaging software that is integral to the CS9600 CBCT scanner to Interpret and Report on the CBCT scans you might order.- The module begins with an explanation of the Justification and Authorisation process in obtaining a CBCT scan.- A description of the ideal specifications for a computer to get the best software manipulation experience.- Advice on how a monitor can be calibrated by display QA software to meet medical grade display standards.- The importance of having a report of the CBCT scan as part of the patient’s records.- The Carestream 3-d Imaging software is explained in detail starting with the Multiplanar Reformatted (MPR) screen which is the screen most clinicians would be familiar with.- Manipulating the Curve screen which is used for drawing the panoramic curve, tracing the IDC, creating cross-sectional slices for bone measurements, and for placing a virtual implant from the implant library in the software.- The evidence behind creating a Reporting Template. The Reporting procedure explained. How a documented Report should be laid out.- The final part of the module consists of reporting on four of the most commonly ordered CBCT scans, an implant report, an endodontic Report, a Lower wisdom tooth Report, and an Orthodontic Report for unerupted and ectopic teeth. The best learning experience for this module would consist of you sitting down in front of your Desktop or Laptop with the CS 3-d Imaging software open. You can open the videos full screen on your mobile phone and perform the software manipulation yourself on your desktop or Laptop following along to the video demonstrations displayed on your phone. You can pause and rewind so that you get hands-on experience of manipulating the software accordingly.
