Yes. All patients must attend DII with a referral from their dentist or specialist dentist. We are an imaging-only service, so we do not accept walk-in patients or provide dental treatment. Your referral should include the clinical question, relevant history and the area to be scanned.

All patients that attend DII must have a written` image request’ from their dentist or specialist dentist. We are an imaging-only service, we cannot accept walk-in patients neither do we provide dental treatment. Your patient image request should include the clinical indication (reason for the image), relevant history/relevant clinical information, any relevant prior imaging if available, and the area to be scanned.

You should provide the required information relating to your patient on the Dental Imaging Ireland online image request form. Once the image request form is submitted, DII can contact the patient directly to arrange a suitable appointment, or you or your patient can arrange the booking by contacting DII if this is preferable. Alternatively, you can send us a referral letter containing the image request details for your patient, then either you or your patient can arrange the booking or we can contact the patient and arrange the booking.

To help us select the correct scan protocol and provide an appropriate radiology report if required, please include patient details, the requesting dentist or specialist dentist’s details, the clinical indication (reason for the scan), relevant history/clinical information, relevant prior imaging if available, the requested anatomical area or field of view, and your preferred booking arrangement.

We provide dental CBCT scans, OPG and cephalometric X-rays, dental photography, facial scanning, intra-oral optical scanning, digitisation of stone models and dentures, and radiology reporting. The most appropriate imaging examination is selected based on the clinical indication (reason for the scan) and the diagnostic information required.

The imaging service is professionally managed. At the appointment, our team will confirm the patient’s details, explain the imaging process clearly, and ensure the patient is kept comfortable throughout any imaging procedures.

All scanning is carried out by a qualified Radiographer experienced in Dental, Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Imaging.

Where a dental radiology report is requested, this is provided by a Dentist with a formal postgraduate qualification in radiology.

All Dentists and Specialist dentists who use Dental Imaging Ireland will have secure access to their patient scan data over the internet. DII will also provide you with the full Carestream 3-d imaging software that you can install on your computer for viewing any CBCT scans that you request. Contact DII for assistance in obtaining and installing the Carestream 3-d viewing software. Of course, if you use a different viewing software you can import the DICOM file series into it.

If requested radiology reports are typically returned within 5 days of the scan. If a case is urgent, please contact the scan centre so we can prioritise accordingly.

When making an image request, you can choose whether you require scan data only or scan data with a radiology report. This flexibility allows you to select the option that best suits your clinical needs.

DII offers a first cycle local Level 1 and Level 2 CBCT course relating to the Dental Imaging Ireland CS 9600 CBCT scanner and the accompanying Carestream 3D interpretation and reporting software. The course is designed to enable dentists and specialist dentists to request and clinically evaluate a CBCT scan as part of their patient care plan. See our Education and Training section.

A Shared Reporting arrangement whereby the Requesting Clinician documents the observations relating to the Clinical Indication and Area(s) of Interest on the CBCT scan and the Dental Radiologist reviews the CBCT scan and records and documents any pathological findings. DII is strictly an imaging-only service. We do not provide dental treatment, so your patient remains under your clinical care at all times. We are here to support you with the imaging and reporting needs for your patient.

DII is based at Bray Primary Care Centre in Bray, Co Wicklow, and welcomes patients from dentists and specialist dentists across the surrounding area and beyond.
